Minutes, 00-03-19 Recorded by Dennis Clark Sent to hrsfa-announce, 20 Mar 01:39 ____________________________________________________________________ (want to be on the game show greed? hrsfa would like it if you tried. read to the end to find out how.) The meeting was convened by sergeant-at-arms Matt Ender at about 7:10 in Sever 111, a room with a table and the first room we'll try out looking for the best possible space for meetings. Many expressed the opinion that this best possible space was the so-called "Ox-Roasting Room" in the barker center. This room, for those unfamiliar, is large, with many nice chairs, a big table, and a marble fireplace large enough to roast an ox in. (barker 114). If anybody has an in with a departmental representative for a department in the barker center (needed for reserving the room), please let us know. Capture the Flag with Stuff -- It happened yesterday. We didn't win. However, we also didn't lose. It was an excellent game; the 15th is currently under consideration for future games with SPS. Going of the Hour -- This will take place on Sunday April 3, the second sunday of spring break, at 1 am (i.e. 1 hour after midnight saturday). Praises will be raised to the almighty chronos. A clock will most certainly not be burnt. It will be there, even if you will not. "What about the lack of drunken freshmen?" -- gormley "Quality over quantity." -- greenb Spring Party: This will likely be on the 15th of april as well, following the CtFwS game, that we may invite interested SPSers along. If you have a potential room, volunteer it. Also noted that this is a saturday, and the potential "We love fridays" sig, represented by mr. withers, has voiced its discontent. Myld Hunt: This will take place on April 23rd in the afternoon (sunday afternoon). We will chase a fox. elarkspur warns that kill the officers sig may have to re-form itself because of this. It does not, and whatever gave you that idea? Through an odd chain of events, Neil Sinhababu has become the fox. Starr will be huntmistress. kgold here related a story from last year, discussing his encounter with an overprotective cambridge family while being chased. "Now you stay away from that weirdo." -- random mother to her daughter, about kgold. "Who would like to be that weirdo?" -- withers, soliciting a fox. Around here kyle entered and was roundly shushed; he would be permitted to speak after hunt deliberations were over. "Yip, yip!" -- kniedzw, suggestively, at bmiller. mr. gormley then suggested that neil, then not in evidence, be the fox. he also requested that neil not be told that rory was the person who suggested his name. In keeping with this, neil will not be informed that he was nominated by rory. kniedzw, still silent, played pictionary. "A fourier transform of a TV!" -- kgold, guessing "it's a scribble!" -- kniezw, explaining Alums: there is an alumni organization. they're called HRSFAlum. their mission is approximately: "To cultivate a community of alumni to hang out, promote HRSFA, and of course dominate the world. Fnord." It's networking for alums, and there may be money. At approximately this point, neil entered. "Neil!" -- everyone, magnanamously "You're one foxy dude!" -- kniedzw, suggestively "What's going on?" -- sinhabab, curiously "nothing you need to know about for a month." -- gormley, subtly "We're holding a hrsfa event in your honor. tea, cookies, croquet, etc." -- cmastr, benificently "sounds good." -- sinhabab, acceptingly "I have ears." -- kgold, offeringly There was talk of an alumni-run con. Mr. withers, while being considered for con-chair, claimed he was not an alum. He did not, however, turn down power. We may at some point in the future desire a liason to the alum group. Tom is handling this for now; eventually this may be delegated to interested folk. "We only recently decided on our name and organizational structure." -- groppi "Our organizational structure is `loose'" -- cmastr Lee Valentine, an alum, sent a message. It should be announced. SIGS: Gaming: There will not be a game-a-thon until prefrosh weekend. People around for spring break should email twlim about gaming over spring break. Also, alums Kevin Martin and Rose Horn came to the area recently, and played many games, including illuminati. Brad's game happened. In the most recent session, the players went 1 1/2 miles in a dinghy, walked 2 blocks, and talked to an old guy. They also received the most experience in a single session they have yet. We don't claim to understand. "There's nothing approximate about 17 and a half." -- elarkspur, on numbers Mr withers is of the opinion that too much stuff happens on saturdays. He is therefore attempting to form two new sigs: we love fridays sig and we love sundays sig. email withers@bantha.org if interested. Bizzareness: They tried to have a tag game in widener after the meeting, but discovered that it was closed after the meeting. Methods of smuggling folks in were discussed. Presumably in spite of Widener's closedness, starr's friends still howled at the moon on its steps. elarkspur's blockmate jen is doing something involving philosophy and fliers; it's bizzare, but we don't know what it is yet. when it happens, we will be told. Telepathy table may happen wed. email eleonard if interested. there was apparently a man in a purple cape with a sword running around aimlessly near abp at 5 today. while bizzare, we are not behind it. Also, let it be known that "Here is Greenwood" is a very bizzare anime. Going to Movies: 3 people went to see Mission to Mars on friday. It was truly awful. everyone laughed through all the exposition and at least one suicide. Cool Movies pSIG: Due to a lack of cool movies this past week, thursday will see a double feature:ghost in the shell and big trouble in little china, starting at 8 pm on thursday. B5: Will start the fourth season with 4 episodes this tuesday. they've been watching quite a bit recently, due to a lack of buffy. And while it's not the greatest time in the world to jump on to the show, please feel completely free to; B5ers love explaining stuff, as they get so little of it in the show. Also, rory gormley is in need of a public oven for B5 cookies on tuesday early evening that's not in the quad. let him know where one is. Anime: Bryn has, thanks to her friend, 87 out of ninetysome episodes of ruroni kenshin. Borrow at will. Writer's: there will be no writer's sig tomorrow, due to the jewish holiday of purim. Which, incidentally, will apparently be the only holiday not abolished when the messiah comes. Submissions exist (more go to starr@fas), and a meeting will happen if a time can be found. Fusion: There is a website at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~fusion, and submissions can be made by email to fusion@hcs. Look at the site, for it has a pretty graphic. Buffy: There has been no new buffy for a while. There won't be until after spring break is over. Alas. Munchies: Baked goods have recently appeared at meetings of B5 sig. This could extend to regular meetings if bakers appear. email dclark@fas. BBC: watched Gormenghast. It was very good. It was a european tape; they're working on it. The transmetal dragon mascot put in an appearance, and showed off its ability to move its head. "Carthage must be destroyed!" -- all, loudly, at lotze's behest, since there was a UC meeting in the next room. The dragon fired two missles. One was from its mouth. One was not. The setup of rooms is liked. The next meeting is on april 9, and we're going to try for mem hall towers. On a vote, sever 111 beats sever 110 as better room by a narrow margin. Lastly, the game show Greed is looking for harvard students. They will have "auditions" at John harvard's brewpub at 11 and 2 today. It behooves good hrsfans to do this; we will storm them, and one of our number will be given a chance to win money! beat down! So, 11 am and 2 pm today (monday march 20; yes, that's today), be there and try out.
