Minutes: Nov. 4, 2001 Recorded by Cassia Martin Sent to hrsfa-announce, 5 Nov 2001 --------------------------------------------------- It began... (Late, of course, but we're always late, so this should not surprise anyone at this point. One day, we will decide to start on time, and just laugh at the shocked faces of people coming through the door....) The Hunt/Hour: happened! They were fun, and in fact, awesome. Lots o' blue paint (hard to wash off, I'm told) and black clothes. We were called a "cult" which is definitely always fun. "Verily, we did confuse the drunken freshmen." There was actually an incident with one of the drunken freshmen, who started harassing one of the nice TSSO girls. Somewhat surprisingly, and rather nicely, HUPD interceded _for_ us, in spite of our rather bizarre get-up and behavior. It was highly cool. Harry Potter: Starr (aka "The Golden Snitch") has already sent out an email with more info, but we are basically hoping to go on Fri. the 16th, presuming the tickets are gettable, etc. People decided that, as an official HRSFA outing, it's $1 off to all *card-carrying* HRSFA members. So, if you don't have your membership yet, get money to Tony. Fall Party: Jeff Filippini, as Representative of the Party Giver's Association, confirmed the party date as Fri., Nov. 30, around 8 pm. (The Scav. hunt, hopefully organized by Bryn and peeps, as the winners of the last Scav. hunt, will start around 9pm.) SIG reports. Buffy: The Musical! Sooo very excited. Very scared, too, but excited. "I've got a theory... Charles is your man for more info, but if you've ever watched Buffy, or ever been intrigued by the phenomenon, this is definitely the time to join. Lowell Grille, 8 - 9:08, Tues. Angel: Mon. 9pm. Grille. Darla's pregnant, and gonna confront Angel (the purported Daddy). It will hopefully not be awful. We'll see. Alias: Didn't actually show tonight, 'cause of the game, which is slightly disappointing. Catan happened instead. (And Pretty Woman, which is the cutest movie *ever*. Well, except for Anne of Green Gables, but that's an entirely different category.) Gaming: Catan. Charles won for the 1st time, but it was Cities and Knights, so he feels slightly less victorious. (Not sure why - I always though C+K required more skill.) Very important comment from the Shadowrun run, from Charles. "Never give TseWei grenades. Ever." Lotze is coming to Town!! This weekend. (It feels wonderfully appropriate that this is under "Gaming SIG, but anyway.) He's bringing the required equipage for some nifty political games that Tony is very intrigued about, and he wants to make sure people to know to be there. Tom is coming! Cool Movie pSig, in the incarnation of Charles, is showing "Breakfast at Tiffany's" at some point, but they're (where they==he) aren't sure when yet. Suggestion -- "Waking Life" is apparently cool, as was Vampire Hunter D. Not Cool Move SIG says "Don't Watch the One." Cruel Move Sig finished the interrogation scene of D&D a couple of times. Come and share the pain -- it's apparently quite fun. Writer's Sig met. Ben was not around to share the joy with us. Reader's Sig talked about the towers of Hanoi with Bert Vaux, and pondered the etymology of some interesting words. They will meet this week, w/ two stories, one of which is in the anthology. B5 sig - not many people coming. BBC Sig - will take over b5 sig's slot, and probably continue showing "Yes, Prime Minister" but at slightly less random times. (It's apparently what West Wing would be if it were British, instead of American, and a social satire instead of a political drama....) VeriCon: (no TseWei input) We will apparently be getting prizes of Cheapass and Steve Jackson games for Verilympics, and such, so you might wanna start honing those gaming skills early.... The art show web page is up! (www.vericon.org/artshow/) Besides looking at the preview pictures there are already up, which are really amazing, you should think about adding your own! We've have 10 pictures already, from 3 artists, but we want more! If you have any questions, get in touch with lmontalv@fas. We also have the ... umm.. great... fortune of receiving in the mail from Bridge publications a rather large collection of Battlefield Earth bookmarks, to distribute. Some are thinking that this might ruin our reputation, so we should follow the lead of the Species posters and hand them out as Scavenger Hunt Prizes. (1st place == 1 bookmark, 2nd place == 2 bookmarks, 3rd place == ALL the bookmarks. Um, yeah.) Also -- Kaitlin Heller, in charge of finding a way to destroy the ancient computer in an amusing but environmentally conscious way, has decided (as actually has already been written) to beat it with increasingly technologically sophisticated implements of computation. (That is to say, rock, abacus, slide rule, vacuum tube... (Anyone know where to get extra vacuum tubes?)) ... and then back to rocks, 'cause we all know WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones. (And besides, we doubt the efficacy of the dead calculator on hard plastic and metal.) The tentative time is 7pm before the Fall Party. The tentative place is the science center. (Someone needs to remember to bring a plastic tarp, btw.) And the meetings was closed to Munchies and gaming. (Munchies SIG won an extra liter of Pepsi or Mountain Dew with out next purchase, which I find vaguely exciting.) Recorded, Nov. 4, 2001 Cassia Martin [This is the HRSFA announcement list.
