Minutes, 4.7.02 From: Kaitlin Branson Heller Date: Sun Apr 07 2002 - 20:42:05 EDT --------------------------------------------------- "The planetarium was crazy. Mafia was stupid." - Tony, re post-Hour party There was a pretty flower. Somebody misplaced Dennis, but he showed up after all. The Hour contained at least one drunken freshman. Kevin and Rose climbed over the seats and looked over the Infernal's shoulder. "The brains faction was strong." - Kaitlin, re Hour chanting The meeting began at 7:13 p.m., one minute early by HRSFA time. ---------- BUSINESS ---------- 1. Stare at Aaron. Kaitlin: Why are we staring at Aaron? Aaron: I don't know! 2. Spring Party. Friday, April 26th is the current favored date. Other dates are in consideration. We may ask Aaron, Cassia, or Holworthy 14 to hold it. We could attempt to reserve the Lowell JCR, Winthrop JCR, or Leverett. 3. Myld Hunt. Mindy will be running this. Warren will be the fox. Cassia: Tse Wei! Wanna be the fox? Tse Wei: Is this because I'm wearing red? Cassia: No, well, it's kind of foxy. It will be Mindy's job to provide tea and scones and such. Mindy: I have more tea than God. Warren: You more tea than you have God, or you have more tea than God does? The date will be Sunday, May 12. 4. Pre-Frosh. Hopefully all who are hosting pre-frosh know this. There will be MST3K Friday night, M&C Saturday night, and Game-a-Thon running Friday-Sunday. Tony suggests we ask a certain Anime person to ask the Anime society about running Anime in the next room. Cassia points out that this involves lots of work. Tony will take care of this. *cough, cough* 5. Freshman Week. Freshman week meeting will be in Ticknor Lounge at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2002. This will probably not actually be during Freshman Week. Dennis will speak later of the week-long HRSFA-fest that *will* take place during Freshman Week. 6. Hurling. Lucy was not here. Sadness. She has sent out an email about this, however. 7. Vericon 3. Will be Jan. 24-26, 2003! "Vericon wants you!!" - Rebecca Rebecca will try to form a board of SuperCoolness to meet about Vericon very soon. She needs a publicity person and scheduly people. Patricia C. Rede is a guest, as is T. Campbell, author of the webcomic Faans. [sic] Rebecca: It spooked Harlan Ellison in a way that Harlan said, Everbody buy this comic. HRSFen: Hmmmm ... 8. Hour. The hour was cool. As was the planetarium, which was very large and took up the back half of Lowell JCR. HRSFen crawled in and sang "Stars" when Lucy showed the stars. It was fun. 9. Kevin & Rose Martin. In Spring 1996, HRSFA passed a resolution naming Kevin a "big wank." This is his claim to fame. On behalf of the alumni of HRSFA, he presented a check for $655 for bringing Scott McCloud to Vericon. (There's actually $735, but some of it is apparently scattered.) He read a long and illustrious list of alums who kindly contributed to this cause. In exchange, he wants to continue to demand his lifetime membership laminated card. Tony will be in charge of making said cards. Form thank-yous will be sent by Dennis and Cassia. Kevin thinks he can probably raise similar money for Vericon or even more money for other coolness. "There are specific by-laws for disbanding the organization and stealing all the money." - Dennis, re G&S ------ SIGs ------ **COOL MOVIES. Did not meet because it got kicked out by the Stein Club. Starr still has Some Like It Hot, and would like people to borrow it and watch it. To make Bryn happy, Cool Movies will be watching Strictly Ballroom next week. Mindy wants to watch Baliwood movies -- outing to Monsoon Wedding? - Tony remarks: Princess Bride was shown last night with the original script. Whole scenes were indeed apparently cut from the movie, and new stuff added, but this seems to have generally been for the best. **WSIG. Kartik says wSIG was cool and successful. Bryn and Heather are cool. There will be a Fusion this year. Kevin: This is a tradition. Dennis: We've already had a Fusion this year. Kevin: That's ... not a tradition. **ANIME. Watched lots of anime. **STAR TREK. In a recent episode, the crew visited a planet with no sun and lush vegetation. Also has an episode precisely the same as one from nine years ago. Next week is a rerun, but SIG leader missed it and it's supposed to be good, so will be watching anyway. On the horizon: Aaron wants to rent Wrath of Khan, which he has never seen. (General ooo-ing for Wrath of Khan.) **M&C. 9 pm, Leverett JCR, Saturday Apr 20. Pre-frosh weekend special: The Angry Clam, read by Dennis. Summer M&C are quite likely. **NON-EXISTENT ATTENDING PATIENCE SIG was quite successful this past week. HRSFen are encouraged to support this SIG and make Dennis very very happy. (Infernal's note: It's good! Go see it!) **NOTEABLES SIG has a concert soon, on April 27. Come! **BUFFY/ANGEL SIG. New Angel episode is a week from Monday, new Buffy on the 23rd. Both shows will keep going till approximately the end of May. **GAMING SIG. There's a Douglas Adams LARP next weekend going Fri. evening through Sun. morning. Write to Charles if you're interested. Kevin is writing his own system; if you'd like to read a copy or play-test, email him at kevin_martin@mindspring.com. Meeting closed. Munchies SIG took over with great panache.
