Minutes: 10/5/03 From: Chris Doucette Date: Sun Oct 05 2003 - 21:50:47 PDT --------------------------------------------------- We were visited today by Marshall D. Perrin '00, Freshman Stag in 1996. "Well, I recognize *you*..." -- Marshall on seeing Jason Morrow '01-'04 ********** KING RICHARD'S FAIRE ********** It was raining that day. Not beause of an angsty teenage author, just because it was rainy. People had fun, although Tom's car nearly broke down on the return trip due to "sucking." ********** IGNOBELS ********** I am very, very afraid of ducks now. Between HRSFA, HCS and SPS many people went and made merry with those wacky, wacky scientists. ********** VERICON ********** The next planning meeting will be next Sunday (10/12) at 1:00 over brunch in the Quincy World Domination Room (all the way in the back on the left, with a large map of the world and a white cat for megalomaniacal petting). Do you have ideas for VeriCon guests, especially ones who live nearby? Contact Kaitlin (kbheller@fas) or Warren (tusk@fas) or even con-chair Charles (cwood@fas). ********** FALL PARTY ********** The semester's big HRSFA shin-dig will be digging its shins this Saturday night (10/11) starting around 8 PM, with a very special Scavenger Hunt starting at 9. It's in TonyDevCharlesandKartik's room (Lowell Q-21 and P-22.) There will be coolness and munchies. Bring your favorite tea if you like. ********** THE HOUR ********** All Hail Chronos. The Coming of the Hour, at which devoted HRSFAn will walk around in black cloaks chanting and bearing clocks, hopefully eliciting "wtf?"s from drunken freshmen, will be the morning of Sunday Oct. 26 from 2 AM to 2 AM. Talk to Kaitlin if you want to give a speech or sing a song about time, the universe and everything. ********** WYLD HUNT ********** The Hunt will be on Halloween this year. The Huntmaster (tusk@fas) is in need of a preparatory room in a River house for people to get painted. Roommate permission is desirable. A depreparatory room in the Quad would also be nice. ********** RPGs ********** The Metal Gear Solid LARP is coming up soon - Saturday November 8th, to be precise. Chris & Jason will begin the painful email recruiting process again this week. If you like Tactical Espionage Action, talk to Chris (doucett@fas) and we'll set you up with a character - there are plenty of spaces left. Henri/Kaitlin's Werewolf: Dark Ages campaign is starting this month sometime. If you want to be an NPC (grraaah!), talk to Kaitlin (kbheller@fas). ********** LIBRARY, ETC. ********** Librarian Elisabeth (ehcohen@fas) wants people's crap out of the HRSFA library. (She would never say crap, of course, so I'm doing it for her.) If you left your crap there over the summer, go get it now. Right now. Finish reading the minutes later. Kaitlin: "If you wanna steal some Noteables choreography, go right ahead." Charles: "Well that i'd burn." The Apocrypha HRSFAlogica, HRSFA's online history, needs updating. If you are an alum, know an alum, or have access to the vital fluids of an alum, contact Kaitlin or Elisabeth so they can harvest their brains. Mmm mmm good. ********** ********** SIGs ********** ********** MST3k SIG: Last week four people watched Hobgoblins, among the funniest of the original series episodes. Jason wants more people, as we begin to brainstorm ideas for movies to riff this year. Our top contenders at the moment are Wing Commander and the Avengers remake, both of which are craptastic in their own special ways. If you have more ideas, email Jason (morrow@fas) or even better, come to the meeting this Wednesday evening. ********** Video Game SIG - They played more games. They bought more games. They want to set up a Master of Orion III (MoO3) multiplayer game sometime soon. MoO3 is evil and you should avoid it like the plague, unless you enjoy highly detailed socioeconomic-political strategy simulators. Jason and Tony (avila@fas) would be the ones to talk to if that's your bag. ********** Gaming SIG - Cody continues to host gaming sessions at Canaday with a high concentration of freshmen, which r0xx0rs. Gunboat Diplomacy was played over the weekend, as was a Magic draft in the Quad. Tony wants to start an online Diplomacy game; email him if you're interested. ********** Movie ZIG - A single person came to see Young Frankenstein, arguably one of the seminal comedy films of the last half century. It seems that the only time HRSFAn can manage to attend organized events in large numbers is on Wednesday nights between 8 PM and 10 PM. The ZIG shall continue on regardless, and if no one comes it's their loss. ********** Star Trek SIG - Dave K. (kowarsky@fas) wants input on what episode(s) people might gather to watch - themed marathons or single favorites. ********** $IG (Stargate/Farscape SIG) - Chris has more SG-1 DVDs than ever before, and Charles has Farscape Season 1. Borrowing is encouraged; sometime in the not-too-near future Chris will show a four episode SG-1 marathon featuring science fiction's definitive Wacky Time Loop (tm) episode, Season Four's "Window of Opportunity." ********** Fusion Doordropping SIG - Jason and Kartik will doordroop Mather and Claverly or they will die. ********** Reader's SIG - Forgot to meet last week, but will meet again this week. Expect announcements on subject matter and location from Bill. ********** Writer's SIG - Set a record this week by having enough people to technically qualify as a SIG! Elisabeth wants to know if anyone else is interested in learning Madrigals to be sung at a future Milk & Cookies. *****ERROR >>>SIGNAL INTERRUPT [()] >>> SIGNAL RESUME***** ********** CIG - Alias is good enough to watch, say Charles and Kartik, and in a near future episode Jennifer Garner will jump out of a window in her underwear. Smallville and Angel will be watched Wednesday night after MST3k. ********** Bizarreness SIG - May watch the California election. ********** Milk & Cookies - The next installment will be the night of Saturday Oct. 18th, probably at the Leverett G-Spot. Any and all dirty jokes have been made, many many times. Directions will be announced. ********** Cartoon SIG - Continues to be wowed by new Big O, new Brak Show, and new Aqua Teen Hunger Force every Sunday night. ********** The meeting is dead; long live the munchies. - Chris Doucette, Infernal Secretary doucett@fas _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
