Minutes: 11/16/03 From: Chris Doucette Date: Mon Nov 17 2003 - 13:31:14 PST --------------------------------------------------- Lester brought a posse. ************ ************ "NORMAL" BUSINESS ************ ************ Normal is, as always, a relative term. Excuse me while I replace all instances of the word "The" with "Da" in the following headings. ************ DA MATRIX REVOLUTIONS ************ In short: pain. If you want the long version, ask Jason and he'll gladly treat you to a diatribe. ************ DA MGS LARP ************ It went off better than anyone expected, despite a race to the finish by the GMs that afternoon. Charles was a point-scoring machine. We'll run it again at VeriCon, with many necessary adjustments for balance. ************ RETURN OF DA KING ************ The plan is to see a midnight showing after watching the extended version DVDs of Fellowship of Da Ring and Da Two Towers on the afternoon of Tuesday Dec. 16th, the last day of classes. Email Warren (tusk@fas) to let him know you want a ticket. ************ VERICON ************ The 'Con Is On - Winter 2004 We've got Peter David! W00t. It was decided on Charles' behalf that we will have a planning meeting next Sunday. Announcement will follow. ************ DA BLOG ************ Dev has suggested that HRSFA should be listened to by the outside world. To bring this about, he is going to set up a weblog ("blog" fer short) where current HRSFAn can post reviews & commentary on anything related to speculative fiction. Politics, of course, are verboten. Someone: "What about religion?" Tony: "Bah. Religion is just spec fic anyway." It was decided that there would be no editing per se, but the Administrator (for the short term, that's Dev) can remove things he/she thinks are too offensive or harmful. Colorful language, being an undeniable part of HRSFA culture, is OK. "I don't like using asterisks! I like using words like **** and ***** and ***." -- Jason As mentioned before, posting access will be offered to current HRSFAn and renewed on a yearly basis at a HRSFA meeting. There will be comment-posting sections available to the general public as well. Dev: "You could have your own name, or a pseudonymous name. For instance, Cassia wouldn't be 'Cassia,' she'd be 'SweaterGurl95.'" Everyone: ... Dev: "Cause she's wearing a sweater, so... yeah." This will all start Real Soon (tm), once Dev can get the page set up on HCS. ************ ************ SIGs ************ ************ Cool Movie Zojo: After a hiatus last week, the Zojo is back this week with The Maltese Falcon in the Quad. Come get your noiry goodness Monday at 9 in Pfoho, at the Wolbach Common Room (ask Dev or Quadlings for directions.) ************ Gaming SIG: The play-by-email Diplomacy game is up and running. Much games were played with visiting alum Tom Lotze, including Netrunner. Magic sub-SIG will return to active duty now that Warren and Dave are through with their show; express your interest and there could very well be some mana tapped. ************ MST3k SIG: Begins for real this Wednesday. We'll dissect the first 30 minutes or so of Wing Commander, and milk as many riffs as possible. People are extremely needed, because leaving it entirely in Jason's hands will lead to badness. Bring paper and pencil. ************ Writer's SIG & Reader's SIG: Continue to write and read, respectively. ************ Milk & Cookies: Next session is Saturday November 22nd (that's this weekend); it will be preceded by a madrigal-singing session with Elisabeth at 8 PM. ************ CIG: Angel and Smallville are still on, because evil never dies. ************ Anime SIG/Video Gaming SIG: A massive conglomeration of organizations is on the horizon, as Anime SIG, VG SIG, and the Anime Society are going to host a playing/watching of the new video game Evangelion 2, in which you (in this case, Jason) can alter the plot of the much-loved series as you see fit by controlling one character. There will be translating and fun-having and maybe even Japanese food. ************ Farscape/Stargate SIG ($IG): We've been watching lots 'n' lots of Farscape on DVD/downloaded DivX. There are plans in the works for a four episode Stargate SG-1 marathon the night of Friday December 12th, which will feature the funniest and silliest episodes I can find, and given this is SG-1, that's saying a lot. ************ Sadly, we were unable to summon SANYO, god of overhead projectors. - Chris Doucette, Infernal Secretary doucett@fas _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
