Minutes: 2/8/04 From: Chris Doucette Date: Sun Feb 08 2004 - 18:23:14 PST --------------------------------------------------- And then there were HRSFAn, and it was good. ************ ************ "NORMAL" BUSINESS ************ ************ Hey everybody, we had a ************ VERICON 2004 ************ The general feeling was one of rocking-ness. And trauma. But mostly rocking. Yves has posted photos online at: http://lab.dce.harvard.edu/~ywang2/vericon/2004/ Treasurer Tony gave a financial report: Expenses: $2500-$2600 Revenue: $2550 UC Grant: $500 Which works out to about $600 profit. If we offer extra discount to Harvard folks next year, we can get even more money from the UC. Jason pointed out that HRSFA hates being poor. ************ THE MASQ ************ Believe it or not, the VeriCon Masq is actually not the real Masq. The *real* Masq will take place the night of Friday March 12th at Loker. Let me (or Kaitlin or Charles) know if you'd like to be the DJ. ************ VERICON 2005 ************ By a vote of 13 for to 2 against (~5 abstaining), VeriCon 2005 will happen. *applause* "It turns us from being a social organization that sits at the Activities Fair in the Literary/Publications section into a social organization that sits at the Activities Fair in the Literary/Publications section and also runs a con." -- Charles "I'm ready to vote, I think Cassia is Mafia." -- Michael ************ OFFICER NOMINATIONS ************ For those who are new to HRSFA elections, the elected positions are the two Co-Chairs, Infernal Secretary, Exfernal Secretary, and Treasurer. The next Editor-in-Chief and Con Chair will be appointed by the newly elected officer board and the outgoing EIC and Con Chair. I will accept nominations by email until 8 PM on Sunday 2/15. Include the name of the person seconding. One point of clarification that was mentioned at the meeting: like the graduating seniors, I am ineligible for all positions, since I will be abroad next fall. So as much as you want to nominate me for everything over and over again - and I know you do - please don't. These will be posted Real Soon on the HRSFA website at: http://www.hrsfa.org/nominations.html Speaking of which, big thanks to HRSFA's new de facto webmaster Vincent, for taking the risky step of assuming effective responsibility for maintaining the website, which is supposed to be the Infernal's job (in as much as no one wants to do it). Don't make him regret it. An (X) indicates that the nomination was declined. *********** Co-Chair: *********** Kaitlin Elisabeth Kartik Michael Warren *********** Infernal: *********** Cody Michael Emily Elisabeth *********** Exfernal: *********** Yves Cody Emily Michael Noam Ed Mary Grace (X) Kaitlin (X) *********** Treasurer: *********** Vincent Mary Grace Yves Emily Noam Kartik *********** Editor-in-Chief: *********** Elisabeth Kartik Warren Ed Kaitlin (X) *********** Con Chair: *********** Michael Kaitlin Kartik Yves ************ ************ SIGs ************ ************ Cool Movie Zojo: Will be moving to Tuesday nights at 9. Dev will be showing "Suzhou River" this week, so that he'll shut up about it. Michael and Noam will be taking up the reins when Dev graduates and Chris ships off to Canada for the rest of the year. ************ Firefly SIG: Dev will start showing the short-lived but awesome awesome awesome series Firefly (by that Buffy guy) in 2-hour installments on Thursday nights. ************ Star Trek SIG: Will rise again. Anthro 121 may show Trek episodes, Dave will announce when these will happen. He will also announce some 'thons to come. ************ Gaming SIG: E-mail Diplomacy players should send in their orders. Lots of poker, Apples, and Mafia is happening on a regular basis. "Gaming SIG happens all the *fucking* time." -- Kartik ************ Anime SIG: A new Cartoon Network acquisition by the Cowboy Bebop people is on Monday nights at midnight; Dev may attempt to watch. Cassia and Elisabeth are going to watch the anime version of "Anne of Green Gables" this Thursday night at 9:15. "There was anime at Vericon; I assume people liked it." -- Jason ************ MST3k: Kicked ass at VeriCon, to the delight of many and the surprise of us. Yves is working on a tape and possibly a digital format. This semester we're going to lay the groundwork for next year's movie and watch some classic episodes (very soon); look for announcements from Jason. ************ Video Gaming SIG: Continues to rule with an iron fist. Soon to arrive is Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, a 4-player cooperative RPG that everyone who has played loves the hell out of. ************ Stargate $IG: Lots of Stargate is being watched, both new episodes Fridays at 9 and old ones whenever Tony/Kartik/Chris feel like it. This week and next week's two-parter features Adam Baldwin (Firefly's Jayne) to the applause of all. ************ Writers' SIG: Will meet this semester on Sundays from 2-3:30 in Elisabeth's room (Lowell H-12). Thank Bill and Eleanor for cleaning the library. ************ Milk 'n' Cookies: Happened at VeriCon; will happen again after Valentine's Day because HRSFA is generally bitter about that particularly day. ************ Bizarreness SIG: Invaded Michael von Korff's room and embarrassed him. ************ CIG: New Angel and Smallville this week (Wednesday 8-10). Because this is sweeps, Angel will be Angel: 1943, and Smallville will be Smallville: Velocity. ************ Magic SIG: Julie Schwartz died this morning (1915-2004). :( ************ Ed would like to start a Building Stuff SIG. *********** *********** As this is my last Minutes, I'd like to take a personal moment here and point out that should next year's VeriCon staff be in need of guests, they are welcome to invite me in my capacity as author of a webcomic of rapidly increasing popularity. Why, just last month my readership doubled from 14 to 28. - Chris Doucette, Almost-Not-Infernal Secretary doucett@fas _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
