Minutes: Meeting 10/3/04 From: Michael Richard Von Korff Date: Mon Oct 04 2004 - 13:28:32 PDT --------------------------------------------------- MINUTES * 10/03/04 ------- 60-second intervals (also known as "minutes") for the October 3rd, 2004 meeting of the Intergalactic Science Fiction Association, Harvard-Radcliffe Chapter. ------- MINUTES * 10/03/04 "This session of 'HRSFA' is now in session... all please lounge about." --Matt Ender INTERESTING THINGS WE DID RECENTLY We went to the Igs; we ran a puzzle hunt, watched Hero, held a Milk and Cookies and a Game-a-thon, and other fun stuff. Kaitlin: "We learned that socialists are people too." Elisabeth: "Oh, no, no, no... we learned that they're people, not socialists. There are no socialists who are people." CITY OF THE GODS LARP Kaitlin's running a LARP Saturday night. The time and place are TBA, though the LARP will run on the 2nd Saturday of every month. The LARP is called City of the Gods-- if you're interested, choose a god and email Kaitlin about it. Feel free to play once and never again or join later in the year... but be sure to enjoy the incredible goodness of LARPing. KING RICHARD'S FAIRE This Renaissance Fair is Saturday, October 16th. We'll be there most of the day. We already have 2 cars; email Noam (lerer@fas) very soon to get a spot. Noam: "A Ren Fair is a large... I've been poked!" Noam: "I have a watch. If you too want to have a watch, you should come to the Ren Fair." WYLD HUNT We'll paint ourselves blue with woad and chase the stag (Elena) across Harvard Square and Yard until we kill her. Then we'll party. The hunt will take place the Friday before Halloween (the 29th). THE COMING OF THE HOUR Kaitlin, the Mystical Poobah of All Tomorrows, noted that Chronos will once again grant us an hour this year. The ceremony celebrating this hour will take place from 2am to 2am on Halloween, Sunday, October 31st, and will last one hour. All those interested in offering up prayers to Chronos, giving speeches to the masses, or otherwise assisting in the Hour ceremony should contact Michael at vonkorff@fas. CHESS We will be assisting the Harvard Anime Society when it battles the MIT Anime Society in a game of live-action chess. If you're interested in taking the role of a chess piece and either have a costume appropriate to some anime or would like to borrow a costume for the game, contact Ada at apalmer@fas.harvard.edu. ANIME There's this 24-hour anime tv network going up in some states other than the one in which we currently reside. Kaitlin handed around a petition to get the network to run in MA. Kaitlin: "The network is only running in Texas, because Texas is cooler than you." FALL PARTY More on this as its date, time and place solidify, but there will be a fall party some time before winter arrives. It'll be super-cool, with a Scavenger Hunt and food and craziness. VERICON VeriCon had a 30-second report. (Kartik went over his 30-second time limit, but only because Elisabeth distracted him.) VeriCon has no progress to report, but all those wishing to assist in the production of this convention (to be held in January) should contact Kartik at conchair@vericon.org. FUSION Fusion will be published some time this year, probably around December. Right now, though, the magazine does not have enough quality submissions. So if you have a short story somewhere in one of your desk drawers, send it along to fusion@hcs.harvard.edu or (better yet) bring it along to Writer's SIG, Thursdays at 8:30. Warren: "The reason that we haven't published anything is because-- is THAT-- well, is that we don't have any grammar." Warren: "Aliens have taught us that it's okay to be gay!" WRITER'S SIG ...will begin meeting Thursdays at 8:30, location to be announced. Attend the SIG if you like to write, if you want to learn to write, if you have something you've written that you'd like others to read, or if you need a group of people who'll volunteer to beat you over the head until you write something. Mst3k SIG: Meets Tuesdays in the evening. Currently, the SIG is writing riffs on the terrible, terrible film "The Order." Attendance at the last meeting was low-- why do you fools not desire to watch hours of mockable goodness? So show up at the next meeting to help MST "The Order" in time for a performance at this year's VeriCon... Magic SIG: is drafting on alternate Saturdays. Video Game SIG: It "meets" in Kartik's room all the time. SmallVIG: Wednesdays, 8pm, as always, watching Smallville. Kartik: "I've heard they've switched from male slash to female slash. Guys, you must come see Smallville..." STARGATE: Fridays at 8pm, before gaming. BIZARRENESS SIG The Society of Lock and Shadow will be migrating penguins across the yard on Thursday. If you want to be involved, talk to Tim. The Swimmy Fish are also doing something with table tents. Mmmmm, table tents. Matt: "Bizarreness SIG is undergoing puberty as far as we can tell." Dan: "I have seen the penguins... the penguins are cute, and the penguins are strong." GAMING SIG: Meeting on Fridays, 9:30pm after Stargate. We want to do some gaming in Canaday Common Room, but we'll only be able to do it if freshmen let us in! COOL MOVIE ZIG: Will be watching Pulp Fiction on Monday (tonight) at 9:30pm in the Lowell House Grille. Michael: "Everything I say I can quote. That's pretty cool." REAL MAGIC SIG: In addition to seeking a cure for the common cold, the SIG is currently making magic wands. If you'd like to craft your own wand, talk to Emily (eimorgan@fas). RPGS SIG: Tyler wants to run an AD&D (or possibly Shadowrun) campaign. He's currently got a few people who want to play but is looking for more. Email him with much emailing (tyler@bestweb.net) if you'd like to join in! That be the "it". All done. Eeeeeevil. ---- Michael Richard Mayhew Von Korff Infernal Secretary ---- _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
