And someone said, 'John, tell a story.' And John said, "It was a dark and stormy night. And someone said, '...'"'" --Dave Elisabeth: "This is the part of the meeting where we obscure the true purpose of the meeting... Now, as you know, the true puprose of this meeting is to--" Kartik: SHHH! SHHH! Elisabeth: (continues talking quietly.) ---------|--|--------- KING RICHARD'S FAIRE happened. It was fun. HAZING: Don't do it. It's not as fun as it sounds! Kartik: "Haze me! Haze me!" WYLD HUNT: It'll be October 29th, starting in Lowell G-24 at around 7pm. We'll put on black clothing, paint our skin blue, and chase the stag (Elena) through the square... THE COMING OF THE HOUR: It'll take place the night of Saturday the 30th (or, technically speaking, the early morning of Sunday the 31st). We'll begin and end at 2am; it'll last precisely one hour. We will celebrate this mystic holiday by not burning a clock. Kaitlin: "No!!! You made it adorable... why?" THE FALL PARTY: Will hopefully be in Matt's room, some weekend in November. We'll have a scavenger hunt at the party, as well as tasty food. VERICON: Kartik (probably lying): "There's this thing that's not a Con that's in January, and it's not a Con, and..." There are new board members. Tim's the projects coordinator, Dan's the scheduling person, and Elisabeth is running registration. Kartik: "He will be Dan-with-a-plan, the scheduling man!" FUSION Submit any science fiction or fantasy stuff you've written to Fusion! Fusion needs more submissions! Elisabeth: "We've got six stories, only five of them aren't written yet." MONEY FOR SIGS SIGS can now apply to the Undergraduate Council directly for money. For more information, email or talk to Yves. ---------SIGS--------- BAKING: Will make pumpkiny things soon. Also, the week after the hunt and hour we'll make cake! BIZARRENESS: Played some HRSFockey, which was demonstrated during the meeting, to the confusion of most of those present. COOL MOVIES: Didn't show a movie this week. Noam: "Yes, we did. Only it looked like the third presidential debate." This week's movie will be Brazil; it'll be shown Wednesday night at 9:30pm, maybe in the Grille. FARSCAPE: Sunday at 9. Kartik: "It was this show that had both characters and plot. Say it together with me: Characters and Plot!" Kartik: Taking a person and putting more wrinkles on their forehead does not make them an alien." GAMING: Has been playing Catan, Magic, Talisman, playing card games, Cthulu 500... all sorts of games. LARP (City of the Gods): Second Saturday of every month. The first session was this month; if you didn't play this time, make a character and play in the November session... MILK AND COOKIES: This Friday, 9pm to 1am, in the Leverett JCR. There will be milk, there will be cookies, and there will also be You. MST3K SIG: Will be mst-ing the Order... Tuesdays, 8:30pm, Comstock 217, unless announced otherwise. A few people tried and failed to get the SIG to switch to Van Helsing. Kaitlin: "She said she'd come to stare at Hugh Jackman's ass." Peter: "I would definitely come to stare at Hugh Jackman's ass." REAL MAGIC: Will be making wands, maybe next weekend. Email/talk to Emily if you're interested. SMALLVILLE: The Flash will guest star this Wednesday. 8pm. CREATIVE ANACHRONISM: The Society for Creative Anachronism will now have a SIG in HRSFA, the SIG for Creative Anachronism. They'll make period costumes and all sorts of other fun things. STAR TREK: Rest in peace, Star Trek SIG. Dave: "Nobody emailed me at all..." Peter: "I emailed you. Only it wasn't about Star Trek." STARGATE: 8pm Friday. VIDEO GAMING: In Quincy 311, all the time. Playing video games. WRITER'S SIG: Thursday, 8:30pm. Spamelot: Premieres this spring. It's the Monty Python musical! The Library: 1) Everyone who has stuff in the HRSFA library should remove it. Otherwise the Library Monster will devour it and grow big enough to eat us all. 2) In a few weeks, we'll be cleaning out the library. If you've never been to the HRSFA library (in Pforzheimer House, in the quad), this will be a great opportunity to get acquainted with it. Elisabeth (talking about her Wheel of Time LARP): "It's not going to happen..." Justin: "It's going to happen. But it's not going to end!" _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
