3/20 Meeting Minutes From: Elena Udovina Date: Sun Mar 20 2005 - 20:20:26 PST Agenda, as it appeared on the board at the beginning of the meeting: (For poor souls with constant-size fixed-width text formatting, the text size goes steadily down from Humongous to Very Small, stopping right before FOOD) Blocking party Hour Conbust Masquerade Ball Myld Hunt Spring Party [Prefrosh Weekend] LARPs / RPGs Library Movies Calendar Sigs FOOD ---BLOCKING PARTY--- "I'm going to chain some of you to my leg personally" - Noam. We will start out on Wednesday night in the Lowell JCR and stay up all night and celebrate the fact that freshmen will have a place to live next year. We may or may not move to other JCRs. Matt wants to visit every common room available to us. There will be gaming. There will also be Cool Movies, which will be merged with the rest of the party. ---THE HOUR--- All Hail Chronos. On Sunday April 3 (i.e. the evening of Saturday April 2) we will gather at 1am (that's 1am, which is not 2am, for 1 is less than 2) in front of Harvard Hall, wearing all black. We will burn candles and return the gift of the hour back to Chronos because we love him very much. Societas artis fabulae sumus. All Hail Chronos. ---CONBUST--- Is very sad because nobody wants to go. It is from Friday 4/1 through Sunday 4/3, and is a con at Smith. "And I mean, like, for you guys out there, it is a college of girls" - Vincent. If you want to go and not make Conbust sad, you should email Kartik (venkatr@fas) and vincent (vyeh@fas) _soon_. Kartik individually should talk to Noam about car renting, which can be made cheaper for HRSFA. ---MASQUERADE BALL--- Is happening on Saturday 4/23. Everyone present at the meeting knew what a masquerade ball was, so there is no official explanation. Now would be a good time to think about a costume theme, and if you have one, you could perhaps whisper it to somebody else, and they would whisper it to somebody else, and eventually all of HRSFA will know about your costume theme idea. Or, we can have a special round of the Paper Game, where you will write your theme down on a piece of paper and pass it to somebody else, who will illustrate it and pass it on to somebody else, who will pass it on to Noam, who... . ---MYLD HUNT--- Is on Saturday 4/16, featuring Lamont as our fox. We will dress up as proper civilized gentlemen and ladies, and will have a civilized Hunt. And Baking SIG will bake us scones. ---SPRING PARTY--- Because it is spring, or it will be spring, or it spring. It will be on Friday 4/8 in the Holmes Living Room. It will be game-like and party-like (in a HRSFA sense of party-like). ---[PREFROSH WEEKEND]--- The meaning of the brackets is shrouded in mystery. We have three events listed in the appropriate brochure, and we will have a marathon Saturday. First, there will be the activities fair and a Game-a-thon; then there will be a rerun of MST3K, which Yves claims will be videotaped; then there will be Milk and Cookies. And there will be more gaming on Sunday, since why would there be no gaming when there can be gaming? ---LARPs / RPGs--- The LARP is sad that so few people are coming to it. There will be a session on 4/9, which is the second Saturday of April (although it is the first Saturday after everyone gets back). There will be another round of the LARP in May, which will be picnic-like, in hopes that this will cause people to materialize. Kaitlin will run an RPG after the break; you should email Kaitlin if you will want to play in it, e.g. if you are a senior who will be released from thesis hell then. The Exalted campaign is alive; Matt GMed his first game and it was good. Shadow Run progresses, for lo, Tyler is alive as well. Vincent might be running an RPG campaign at the end of this year, or at the beginning of next year. If you want to run a new LARP / RPG, you should talk to Kaitlin, though you should also note that we already have quite a few. ---LIBRARY--- We got $200 from the UC + $50 of HRSFA's own money to spend on books and games (the UC money is committed $150 books, $50 games) this semester. There should be a -discuss thread about what people want. People also should add to the wiki page that contains suggestions for Lamont and science fiction. And, does anyone know what happened to the Game of Thrones, which used to live in the library but is there no more? ---MOVIES--- As everyone seems to have been telling Lamont, there is this movie called Sin City coming out on 4/1, and if you name an alive movie star, most likely they're in it. There will be a run to go see it on 4/8 or 4/9 or something like that. Details will be forthcoming. ---CALENDAR--- Novalis made us a pretty calendar application that isn't up yet, but will be up on the HRSFA website shortly. At which point people will start using it to schedule their events, in addition to sending an -announce / -social email about them. ---SIGs--- Stargate - is over. Chris will watch old episodes during the rest of the semester. Magic - drafted on Saturday, and will not draft again in the near future due to business and break. MST3K - attempted to watch Manos: the Hands of Fate, but the DVD player refused to play it. Watched Santa Claus Conquers the Martians instead. This week, MST doesn't know what to watch yet, because it wants suggestions from HRSFen as to what they personally would like to riff. Next week (as in, after the break), MST will watch (or attempt to watch) Manos again. Bizarreness - would like to report that Ara. Would also like to report that Capture the Flag was *not* played and *not* enjoyed in Widener. However, due to a low turnout of people who did *not* play Capture the Flag in Widener (an impressive 10 people canceled the day of), if you want to play but didn't get a chance (or if you want to play again), you should *not* email Matt, and Capture the Flag will *not* be played again. Smallvig - has nothing to say. Milk and Cookies - was tasty, and all three Von Korff's did the one-word story, the moral of which was that VonKorff is one word. Milk and Cookies will meet on 4/16, but will be small and will be making friends with the Myld Hunt. Baking - made pie, then ate it. Will make scones for the Myld Hunt. Will make other things if people want to make them. Gaming - won't happen this Friday, because break. When we get back, we don't quite know when and where it will be happening (since Stargate is over), but it will probably be starting at 8:30 - 9:30, depending on what Cody can reserve. Video Gaming - consists of Yves, Peter, and some non-HRSFen. That seems mildly strange. Cool Movies - watched Sting and Space Balls. Will watch The Mouse that Roared either during the blocking party or the week after. Writers' - will meet this Tuesday 10-11:15, and will have a special workshop that should be especially fun. SCA - Tuesday 7:30 - 9:30 there will be anachronistic gaming, though it is as of yet unknown what game will be explored in its medieval variant. Additionally, SCA got money from the UC for a textile project, and the current idea is to create a tapestry of a dragon, with the stages being dying of the cloth and then using shiny beads to embellish it. If you have ideas about this, you should email Elisabeth (ehcohen@fas). ---FOOD--- Happened, though ridiculously few people answered Hillel's call for rescue from the DONUT. Vincent, Alison, and I send our disapproval. Elena. _______________________________________________ hrsfa-announce mailing list hrsfa-announce@lists.hcs.harvard.edu http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hrsfa-announce
