Minutes, 9 April 1995 Recorded by Michelle Melendez --------------------------------------------------- "Yo...let's begin" says Claudia and the meeting is called to disorder. As Kevin once again exercises power and appoints it a meeting. As it has been a month since our last meeting there are a lot of stories to tell. -The treasurer (Mike) is in record breaking attendance , and asks that people who hrsfa owes money get him receipts, and people that have checks cash them soon, as we are closing the old account and starting fresh with a new one in order to figure out how much money we actually have. -The New office is now operational. A round of applause occured for those who moved and set up! The new (as of 4-8-95) combination and directions can be obtained by calling me (michelle) at 3-3322, I am keeping a list of who has the combo, so please inform me if you are giving it to other members. Please also try to keep the office tidy. If you are interested in having office hours let me know! We would like to advertise our office hours, to draw members and possibly lead to UC $ for the library. Also anyone who would help undecorate/pack forgotten stuff and lightly clean old office would be appreciated. -The HRSFA dirty trick science center movie SIG (lead by Alden)has been active and has yellow tagged Star Trek Generations, Nell, Indiana Jones IV, Die Hard IV?, Star Wars 4, etc. but will wait till next semester to show anything. -Going of the Hour occured twice, the first on 4-2 was a small get together and Roborally was played. The second met on 4-9 and lead a procession through the yard, ceremony on Widener steps, were was encountered two satinist accusers and one philosopher (who was confused by Matt Ender's admission that 'The things you have said are all true, the things I have said are all true, even the false ones.'). The clock was burned producing an 8 foot tall tower of flame. Upon finding Matt in harvard hall before the ceremony the security guard commented 'Are you doing your thing again tonight? try to keep the noise down'. -Piracy SIG: all interested members are encouraged to bring wish lists of what tapes they would like to copy to the next meeting to submit for funding consideration. -CONcept: happened in Montreal, Spider and Gene Robinson were in attendance, as well as were a few HRSFA members, Claudia has pictures. -Neil Gaiman was at North Hampton. -Drew shows the new Vertigo tarot deck to much ooh'ing and ahh'ing. -Myld Hunt: will probably occur late afternoon on April 30th (allowing the involvement of champane impaired seniors) Cyrus and Claudia are organizing. -The end of the year senior brunch is being organized by Marion and will probably be in Currier (refer to her posting). -Fusion: A draft is had, it will go to the printer ...soon, will be finished...soon, (at which Kevin demands 3000 copies on his desk by the morning, and someone asks if he has a desk). SIG reports: Sliders 'SIG': Will be meeting Wed. at 9pm in the Currier mousehole (possibly merging with people who will be watching Voyager there at 8pm). As Clare described in a previous posting, its kinda like 90210 meets Quantum leap. VR5: supposably has gotten much better (not hard to do given the first episode), it now has a coherent conspiracy plot, described as like the X-files in cyberspace, A cyberspace and X-files discussion ensues. MST3K: thanks Alden for procuring tapes, will meet next Saturday to watch Franks last episode, Sampson vs. the Vampire Women. Writers SIG: it's small population was almost turned into thesis SIG ('There are more of us than them'). It will meet again this friday in the currier lobby at 8pm, and probably proceed to the new office. StarTrek: has been stuck in rerun land. But there will be new episodes this week. Voyager is about a traitor on the ship giving federation technology to the /Quason/.Cristella asks for a volunteer to tape Wed. episode.Possible rerun Sat at 4pm. BBC: has been meeting sporadically, this past week it degenerated in to random british SIG and watched Young Ones, Canine in Company, Dimensions in time, and Dr. Who ('I love the smell of PVC'). Both Claudia and her Blake 7 tapes managed to show up for the meeting. Next Sunday at 1pm they hope to watch lots of Blakes. Anime: Temporarily merged with Harvard Anime society last friday. Gaming Mandel Sig: Amber: Matt Ender is the emmisary from a new Amber game. Ravenloft: Got into a gambling game with a sherlock holmes type ('your left nostril flared slightly you must have a 6 of spades),a mathmatician-the ultimate card counter, a wookie type known to consume winners, two diviners... in which the elimination process is quite severe. half the party already left because the land is at critical doom level. ARS Magica: turned into Scooby Doo ARS in time, by jumping back through time in no particlar order. Generally they raised taxes and created lots of nasty things. Larry's comment 'I only left last session, what happened to you guys?'. 2 sessions ago they searched the caves, known as hell, under their covenant, where resides a very large strong dragon, Comments=It could be a large weak Dragon, Is it sleeping or dead? It's dead and thats why we're worried. Gurps X-files: Something fell from the sky, meteor, UFO, giant virus, God? Interviewed people that saw things that did not happen, attacked by wolf and neat insects (although Rose's charater did not think so), Got to run around in the woods with weak flashlights shooting at things they did not know what were. Chariot World: renamed pending world, world, rapid turnover world, dumpling world, poptart world. No one else has died yet but they are working on it. Gurps Cthulu Punk: continued from game-a-thon, Mercinaries in Europe driving an armored personnel carrier shaped like a wombat. Blew up the parthonon with a demolition charge. Score=1 hospitalized, 1 dead, 1 coma, one hospitalized-shot in head by leutenant-both arms cut off, but alive through modern medicine. -Game-a-thon: So Aaron when is the next game-a-thon? Aaron suggested the widely praised idea of combining the next game-a-thon with anime argh, to possibly occur the first weekend in reading period (may 6th). Too much anime should put people in the right mood to play some of the games and vis versa. -Robert Asprin after 2.5 years published another book in the Myth series, entitled Sweet Mythtery of Life. -The guy who wrote the original Akira published a book about the battle between the last two telekinetics. -Spider Robinson published Star Mind and is still working on Calahan's book. -HRSFA list: A reminder that you should feel free to post things that are at least vaguely sci-fi related that you think would be of interest to hrsfa'ns. Lets eat, and the meeting is brought to a close, and people start drinking out of Susanah's reusable plastic Irish cups. -michelle- Internal secretary (aka person with office combo)
