Minutes, 27 April 1997 Recorded by Eli Bohmer Lebow, mailed to hrsfa-announce 28 April --------------------------------------------------- Minutes, HRSFA General Meeting 1997-04-27 19:12; Julian Day 2450566.5 Sever 110 Recorded by Eli Bohmer Lebow "Everybody get away from the books, we're starting the meeting!" --Susan. There were indeed a great many books present, for the booksale, as was prophesied in my announcement of this meeting. The book prices were discussed. We ratified the proposed prices, which were: $1.00 hardcover and $.50 paperback for HRSFAns; $1.50 hardcover and $.75 for normals. The senior brunch will be May 11. Several alums are probable to be in town then. Note that non-seniors may attend the senior brunch; it is in honor of the fact that the seniors may or may not be around after they graduate. Matt Ender said: Celebrate whichever half of that you choose. (paraphrased) We (the officers, I think) will choose a house based on availability and on what sort of "private space" they have. First meeting of next academic year: The FDO will only list our meeting in the calendar given to frosh if it's withing a certain set of times. The times are all in the range September 16 to 20, i.e. 1997-09-16 to 1997-09-20. (We're worrying about conflicts with other groups' first meetings)(It's around the first week of classes, or something.)(Rumor has it that frosh registration will precede upperclass move-in, which would be stupid. We'll try and trust Harvard not to be stupid. Right.) [I have since learnt that frosh registration is 1997-09-08, two days before upperclass move-in.] There is a proposal to meet Wednesday or Thursday so as not to conflict with when official Harvard parties and things are likely to be. There is a proposal to avoid Thursday on account of "Friends". There is a general lack of disapproval for Wednesday. There is something said about the S.C.A., which i didn't fully understand, and which i think ended up being ambiguous about when we should meet. We voted to have three choices, those being: 1) Wednesday at 7pm; 2) Wednesday at 8pm; 3) Thursday at 7pm. In ISO format, those are 1997-09-17 19:00, 1997-09-17 20:00, and 1997-09-18 19:00. [I am in the process of trying to reserve Emerson 105 for the first timeslot listed above. There seems to be some lack of communication between the FDO and the room-reserving people. Further bulletins as events warrant.] Game-A-Thon is this weekend. We have three Science Center rooms. It will be Friday 5pm to Monday at midnight. [Clue was mentioned later, but it belongs here, thematically, so i'm rearranging the minutes. Ha.] There are not enough people signed up for Clue. It will be Sunday at 1:30. Contact Claudia if you want to play. [Her email address is .] Myld Hunt: Aaron is the Fox. Aaron has been forced to be the Fox. Therefore, Aaron is the Forced Fox. [The Myld Hunt will be 1997-05-03, Saturday.] Prefrosh Tabling: Kelly and Susan went. Darth was useful in displacing another organization (i think it was the UC). Some people were interested in Kelly's Red Dwarf t-shirt. Aaron found the External Secretary and Editor in Chief folders in the library. Chris brought posters, although he didn't stay at the meeting for long. Everyone shall poster. Don't necessarily put them up now, but within the next 4 or five days. [Out of chronological order: ] Follow the rules when postering. Particularly, follow the rules in the Science Center, because otherwise HRSFA will be fined. [I have received a memo from Dean Epps's office asking us to inform our membership of the regulations: "Place no more than 4 posters on Thayer Gate! Do NOT cover the Emerson plaque! Do NOT-repeat DO NOT-place posters on the sidewalks! You WILL be fined!!" Another memo says: We may poster "only on bulletin boards and kiosks. Please note that chalking and taping posters to the sidewalks is strictly prohibited. As stated in the Handbook for Students, organizations are fined $25 for repeated violations and are liable to the loss of priveleges."] SIG REPORTS B5: Gather for new episode "tonight" (Sunday) at 10pm. Star Trek: Andrew Moon will be the new Star Trek SIG leader. Ig SIG: Has done nothing yet. Siswai'aman (formerly "Gaming SIG"): Mage: I didn't hear very clearly, it was either someone captured some technology and fled, or someone captured some technology and Fred. Magic SIG: The "Sealed deck league is going wonderfully". Something was said concerning some evil new cardgames for sale. The meeting was temporarily plunged into darkness. Vampire: There are "greater and greater realizations". The leaders are doing bad things to those they lead. The penultimate session will be at some specific time i forgot to write down; the ultimate session will be at GAT. "Ravenloft just began again." Lords of Chaos: "Stuff happened." --Chase. There will be a 48-hour session on movie weekend. Orient Express: Ender=horrible demon. To illustrate this point, a book featuring Jessica Fletcher's face was waved in the air. [One of the booksale books. I don't know who bought it.] Lords of Chaos has perl scripts on its website. Kyle bought a 4th edition Ars Magica book. Robert Jordan SIG: Even Aaron didn't show up this week. Milk and Cookies: Many books were read. Pooh was present both as a book and as a doll. There were cookies. There was a fire. There was milk. There were pajamas. Writers' SIG has not met. Fusion is "bumpily running along." Concerning the Arisia grant, Kelly asked how to fill our certain parts of the application. $179 for an academic-discount-price on PageMaker is plausible. Summer HRSFA: A fair number of people will be here. We may sell summer memberships to summerschool students. Among the officers, Susan, Aaron, and Kyle will be here; Kelly and I will be away but in contact with the rest of the world; Chris will be incommunicado. We gave Matt Ender a discount (half off) on the books, for him to buy all the books left after everyone else had bought what they wanted. [This actually happened. There will not be a booksale on Thursday, since they've all been sold.] Meeting adjourned about 19:50, i think, but it was a bit confusing.
