Minutes, 1997-11-09 Recorded by Eli Bohmer Lebow Sent to hrsfa-announce Mon, 10 Nov 1997 22:07 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes, HRSFA general meeting 1997-11-09 18:12; Julian day 2 450 762.467 Sever 110 Recorded by Eli Bohmer Lebow Saw Starship Troopers. Violence and Gore aplenty. Mixed opinions of the movie. Low opinions of tactical cleverness of movie characters. Sorry. Full sentences now. Fusion is getting money, from Arisia and the UC and I think one more place, possibly the OFA. We may need to spend the UC money soon so they don't take the money away. We vote to pre-approve Kelly's upcoming emergency decision to pre-pay $250 to someone whose name I didn't catch, tho for some reason the name "Turley" comes to mind. Any questions concerning Fusion should be sent to Kelly at stage@fas. Marc Abrams may pay HRSFA some money, or rather make a donation, because we saved their butts several times for the Igs, and because they made some money off it. The library will be ready soon. Meeting, Tuesday, final library reorganization. BTW Ciaraldi is giving us more books. We need to get an appraisal for the books we have, and we need to get the list to Arisia. We need to choose when to hold the 10th anniversary party. After some discussion, we vote to approve the "relatively firm date" of 1999-02-07, Saturday the 7th of Feb. Kyle said that "relatively firm" means "unless the Earth explodes" or similar catastrophe occurs. Cthulhu (please forgive my spelling) is invited. Susan proposes a Prisoner marathon. We vote to approve. Susan would run it but she is a "flake", she says. Chris Hall would have been appointed to run it because he wasn't present, but we had an unexpected fit of not-that-mean-after-all-ness. Eventually Claudia was appointed. Some discussion ensued concerning bad movies being made from good books. There is a rumored movie of _Ender's Game_. For the purpose of having a Group Photo, we paused the meeting at 18:27 and unpaused at 18:30. SiG Reports B5: We just saw the last new episode for several months. There will be a catchup SiG. We postpone thinking about taping the new episodes, although i gather we will tape them. Unofficial Cool Movie PSiG: Toy Story seen. Highlander movie (the first one) to be seen. Claudia Christian may appear in the Highlander series. Star Trek: Three or five people came to watch. Gul Dukat is cute when he's crazy. Worf and Dax will get married next week. Siswai'aman: Champions (Rob Stolper's game) started, or at least the character creation started. Ravenloft didn't meet due to Election Day out in the real world. Lords of Chaos met three times; technically, the third session was still going, during the HRSFA meeting. Matt will be the new player. Note: This coming Saturday, there will be no LoC, so Aaron will be able to use that free time to run something else. See his post to hrsfa-announce for more details. Also, Igor will be able to run Talismans of Power that night. For Game-A-Thon, someone inspired Aaron to reserve all of Loker Commons, because it was free and why not? GAT is in intersession. Prepare! Jessica's Vampire game met. People are searching for a religious nut, a way out of the city, and a missing guy who was lost for 10 years. UC Harrasment SiG: They haven't responded to our Assasssins challenge. We'll try to push it through the Campus Life committee. Their Uno thing failed. We spelled "Wanker" right. Note that this does not mean that i spelled it right, just now. Our source for the correct spelling is some poster. MIT Excursion: On Thursday 1997-11-12 (November 12), Orson Scott Card and Alan Steele will speak. Go. Go early. Claudia will run a HRSFA excursion. O. S. Card will also be at Pandemonium hat day. The officers need to get library books for him to sign. On 1997-12-04, Ellen Kashner will be the MIT speaker. _Foundation's Fear_ by Benford is "pretty good" but "not entirely consistent with Asimov", according to Marshall, whom i fear i may have misquoted, and to whom i apologize if this is so. Munchies SiG: We ask for volunteers to be the new leader, someone who is not a senior. Lori Ricard is appointed the Munchies SiG leader. Aaron thinks people who went to the Igs should reimburse him $3 each. Kyle thinks this should be optional until Kyle pays Aaron for something i didn't quite catch. We vote to allocate $10 for food for the library-renovator-workers. We wonder why Chris isn't here; perhaps he'll show up at 19:00 in protest to the new meeting time of 18:00. As we are discussing this, at 18:46, Chris walks in. He asks if anyone has miniatures (trees etc.) for games. He will run Flashpoint, a miniatures game. There is a play-by-email game, Vampires and Citadel of Lilies, run by September Virgin. I don't understand this conversation at all. There is something about designing a joint HRSFA history. I believe Matt Ender has sent out something about this, which I hope clarifies what is going on, because I can't. The meeting adjourned 18:52.
